The Day Zizou Broke My Heart

Why? WHY?!?!?! The French shootout loss was more tolerable after the knife was unnecessarily twisted by Zizou and his uncharacteristic classlessness. I just can't believe it. What a disgrace, a smudge on a wonderful career.

Kudos to Italy, though. It just wasn't in the stars for Les Bleus.

This made me sad. I've been doing some searching, reading articles from various newspapers available online. Not sure what to believe. Regardless of what was said, it was obviously the button that Materazzi was trying to push. He achieved his objective - Zidane out of the game. Terrible that he had to go out this way. I know that "trash talking" goes on in most sports but racism in football seems rampant. Interesting considering its the ONE sport that is played all over the world and should be something that unites us all. Rather than hating Zidane for pulling something so apparently stupid, I sympathize with him and hope he will be remembered for what he brought to football rather than the headbutt heard round the world.

PS: I'm soooooooooooooooo excited! Qualifying games for Euro Cup 2008 begin next month! I've become a footie fan!
